Stenbock House, 25 September 2020 – As of Monday, the Government will relieve, in justified cases, the obligation for self-isolation for people arriving from Latvia, Lithuania and Finland, in order to simplify cross-border travel within the common economic space.

Pursuant to the current arrangement, it is required to self-isolate for 14 days when coming to Estonia from Latvia, Lithuania or Finland, if the infection rate of the relevant country is 25 or higher per 100,000 inhabitants.

Thanks to the approved amendment, people arriving from Latvia, Lithuania and Finland are exempt from self-isolation in certain cases if the infection rate of these countries rises above 25. People arriving in Estonia from these countries are not required to self-isolate for two weeks if they are coming here to work, study, access healthcare services, attend a family event or for the purposes of transit, and they exhibit no symptoms or have had no known contact with an infected person.

The amendment will enter into force on 28 September.

The obligation to self-isolate when travelling to Estonia from another European Union or Schengen area country depends on the coronavirus infection rate in that specific country. People arriving from these countries will not be subject to an additional restriction on movement if the infection rate of the last 14 days per 100,000 people is not higher than 16–17.6 in the relevant country, and it has not increased in the past two weeks.
